Why Tirupur?
Tirupur, Tamil Nadu is our home base for three simple reasons: dependable sunshine for natural drying, an experienced manufacturing ecosystem, and excellent logistics for fast, pan-India dispatches. That combination lets us make large volumes of consistent, high-quality seed balls—without cutting corners on sustainability.
What goes into a great seed ball
Every seed ball is a tiny habitat designed to give a seed a head start. Our recipe uses only natural inputs:
-
Native seeds: Selected for your region and purpose—examples include Neem (Azadirachta indica), Indian Laburnum/Amaltas (Cassia fistula), Pongamia/Karanj (Millettia pinnata), Jamun, and hardy wildflowers or grasses for quick ground cover.
-
Clay-rich soil: Forms the protective shell.
-
Compost & cocopeat: Add nutrients and water retention.
-
Natural binders: A touch of jaggery/starch solution helps everything hold together.
-
Beneficial microbes (optional): To support early root growth.
We adjust the blend based on seed size, monsoon timing, and where the seed balls will be scattered.
Step-by-step: our scaled process
1) Seed sourcing & calendar planning
We work with trusted suppliers and local networks to source viable native seeds. Before each monsoon, we create a planting calendar by state/region so the right species reach the right places at the right time.
2) Cleaning & viability checks
Seeds are cleaned and sorted, then checked using simple float tests and small trial germination batches. Only high-viability lots move ahead.
3) Preparing the growing medium
Clay, compost, and cocopeat are measured and mixed until the blend forms a soft, cohesive “dough” that holds shape without cracking. Moisture is carefully managed—too wet leads to cracks, too dry reduces binding.
4) Uniform mixing at scale
Batch mixers ensure even distribution of seeds and ingredients, so every seed ball has the same growing conditions. We maintain strict hygiene and batch documentation throughout.
5) Forming the seed balls
Depending on seed size and the end use, balls are formed to a consistent diameter (typically smaller for herbs/flowers and slightly larger for tree seeds). Uniformity helps with predictable drying and better field performance.
6) Shade drying on racks
Freshly formed balls are first shade-dried on ventilated racks so they firm up gradually. Slow drying reduces surface cracking and protects the embryo.
7) Curing & final drying
After initial set, the balls complete drying and curing over several days (timing varies with humidity and season). The goal is a firm shell that protects the seed, yet rehydrates quickly in rain.
8) Sorting, de-dusting & packing
Each batch is sieved and hand-checked for size, surface quality, and integrity. Finished seed balls are gently de-dusted and packed in breathable, eco-friendly materials with batch codes for traceability.
Quality checks we don’t skip
-
Moisture & hardness: Random samples are tested so balls don’t crumble in transit or go moldy in storage.
-
Drop & abrasion tests: To simulate rough handling in the field.
-
Sample germination: We routinely sprout samples from every lot to verify viability.
-
Storage protocols: Cool, dry storage with desiccants maintains seed vigor until dispatch.
Customisation for CSR, events & campaigns
We regularly tailor projects for corporates, schools, NGOs, and citizen groups:
-
Species mix by region (rainfall, soil, urban vs. rural).
-
Branded sleeves/inserts with usage instructions and QR codes.
-
Impact tracking: Batch IDs and simple reporting templates help you measure reach and outcomes.
-
Educational kits: “Throw & Grow” cards and workshop guides for volunteers and students.
Sustainability inside the unit
-
Natural inputs only: No synthetic polymers or harmful additives.
-
Water-wise operations: Reuse of process water where possible.
-
Responsible packaging: Recyclable/biodegradable materials.
-
Local livelihoods: We prioritise training and steady work for women from nearby communities.
How to use seed balls (share with your volunteers)
-
Time it with rains. Pre-monsoon or during rainy spells is best.
-
Choose suitable sites. Open soil, pond bunds, scrublands, campus perimeters—avoid paved areas.
-
Scatter, don’t bury. Toss gently and let rain do the rest.
-
Leave them be. No digging or extra watering required in the right season.
Frequently asked questions
How long can seed balls be stored?
They’re best used within a season. Stored cool and dry, many species retain good vigor for several months; viability naturally declines over time.
Which species are best?
We recommend hardy natives suited to your rainfall and soil. For quick greening, mixes of grasses and wildflowers work well; for long-term canopy, choose local trees like Neem, Pongamia, Jamun, etc.
Will every seed ball sprout?
No—germination depends on rainfall, soil contact, and seed dormancy. That’s why we focus on native species, correct timing, and consistent QC to maximise success rates.
Can you add our logo and a message?
Yes. We offer branded sleeves, stickers, and instruction cards—perfect for CSR drives, marathons, fests, and return gifts.
Do you ship nationwide?
We dispatch across India with moisture-safe packing and batch tracking.
Ready to green your next initiative?
